Yamaha WR250R (2008–2020) Error Codes
How codes are shown: Shown as a number on the dashboard display.
How to read the codes
- Turn the key on. The engine warning light (check engine light) should come on for about two seconds as a self-check and then go out. It may also light while you press the starter button, which is normal.
- When the ECU finds a fault, an error code number appears in the odometer area of the multi-function display.
- Write the code down before you switch off, then look it up on this site. Yamaha advises getting the bike checked as soon as possible while a code is showing, to avoid engine damage.
- If the bike falls over with the key on, the engine stops and the display shows code 30. Stand the bike up, turn the key off and back on, then start the engine.
Fixed the problem and want the light off? See How to Clear a Yamaha Check Engine Light (and When Not To).
Known issues on the WR250R
- If the engine is left idling for about 20 minutes while the bike is stopped, the ECU switches it off and shows code 70. This is a built-in feature, not a fault — press the start button to restart. Owners have run into it when idling the bike to warm it up or charge the battery during winter storage. Related codes: 70
